From San Giuliano Terme to the Versilia Coast (approx. 200km return)
Take the Firenze/Mare motorway towards Pisa Nord. Coming up to the exit for Lucca,
follow the signs for Viareggio and then take the SS1 Via Aurelia. Leaving behind
Lido di Camaiore you will reach Pietrasanta, also known as “little Athens” for
the beauty of its architectural works such as the Clock Tower and the lido of
Marina di Pietrasanta. Forte dei Marmi comes next, with its many fashionable clubs
and high class boutiques, one of the most exclusive and sought after destinations
of the riviera. We advise a stop off here for shopping and lunch, fish naturally!!
Art lovers will appreciate a visit to the Carrara marble caves from where Michelangelo
chose the pure white blocks for his masterpieces; the basin of Torano, the basin
of Fantiscritti and the basin of Colonnata, which takes its name from the famous
town which produces another “white masterpiece” the “lardo di Colonnata”
From San Giuliano Terme along the wine routes of the Pisa hills
(approx. 150 km return)
From San Giuliano Terme you can immerse yourselves in the heart of the Tuscan
countryside taking the wine routes of the Pisa hills crossing through ancient
hamlets such as San Miniato where you can stop off to taste the famous white truffles
and porcini mushrooms of the area. Proceed then on to Palaia, La Rotta and Peccioli.
In Terriciola, a small country hamlet of Etruscan origin situated in the hills
between Pisa and Volterra, we advise you to stop off at the ancient Fattoria Fibbiano,
producers of delicately perfumed wines from vineyards which are set in earth particularly
rich in clay and shells.
